'Ballston Rocks'
Village of Ballston Spa
The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association presents "Ballston Rocks" to promote the village’s vibrant and friendly ambiance with its unique shops, restaurants and galleries as well as the attractions and events held during the spring and summer months, including free outdoor concerts and movies.
In conjunction with this promotion, 100 Adirondack rocking chairs are being sponsored by local businesses, organizations, individuals and families, who are decorating the chairs in a wide variety of styles. The decorated rocking chairs will be placed around the village by Memorial Day weekend for people to look at, sit in and enjoy all summer. There will be a fun competition and judging of the rockers for their artistic and creative merits. Chairs can be retained by sponsors or donated to the BSBPA for an auction to be held around Labor Day. The proceeds will go to support local activities like Concerts in the Park, The Ballston Spa Film Festival, and the Adopt A Plot program. All donations are tax deductible.
Each Adirondack rocking chair will be numbered and have a brass plate attached to the chair recognizing the donor and the artist. There will be a "chair walk" map guide showing the locations of the different chairs throughout the village and recognition of the sponsorship support provided to the local community and its events. Sponsors may choose to decorate the chair themselves, sponsor one for a school class or community group to decorate or commission a local artist to turn the chair into a work of art.
The decorated chairs need to be returned for display by May 16-17, 2008.
For more information regarding the chairs or program, please contact Steve Springer at Steve.s@roverparts.com, Tina Mangino-Coffey at tmanginocoffey@mangino.com or contact Ellen Mottola at the BSBPA office, 885-2772 or info@ballston.org.
